Professional Activities
Prof. Giuseppe De Benedittis, M.D., Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Milan (Italy). His specialties include Psychiatry and Anesthesiology. He is former Director of the Interdepartmental Center for the Study and Pain Therapy a the University of Milan. He is Vice-President of the Italian Society of Hypnosis (SII).Prof. Giuseppe De Benedittis has been elected Member of the ISH Board of Directors since 2009. He is also Chair of the ISH COR , the Scientific Committee and the ISH Task Force for WHO recognition of Hypnosis.

After his medical degree at the University of Padua, he specialized in Neurosurgery, Psychiatry and Anesthesiology at the University of Milan. He founded and directed the Interdepartmental Center for the Study and Pain Therapy of the University of Milan, the first Multidisciplinary Center established in Italy.
Clinical Activity & Research AreasHis long clinical experience and experimental research studies have concerned the measurement of pain, the quality of life, the psychological aspects of chronic pain, the use of innovative techniques for pain control (pharmacological, anaesthesiological and psychophysiological) in a Multidisciplinary Approach, which takes into account all the most relevant components of chronic pain.
He is internationally recognized as one of the leading experts in Pain Therapy, in particular in the field of primary chronic headaches (e.g., migraine, tension-type headache), oro-facial pain, pain in the spine (e.g., neck pain, low back pain), neuropathic pain (e.g., shingles), fibromyalgia and cancer pain.
Professor De Benedittis has also been a pioneer in the clinical and experimental use of Hypnosis for Pain Control, contributing to elucidate the complex neurophysiological mechanisms of hypnotic analgesia.
PublicationsHe has over 200 publications and 7 monographs in the field of pain and hypnosis.

Honors & Awards
He is Honorary Member of the Hungarian Society of Hypnosis and received the Ernest Hilgard Award for Scientific Excellence by the International society of Hypnosis in 2009.
Special Therapeutic ExpertiseAfter retirement in 2014, Prof. De Benedittis is still active in private practice. He deals mainly with Pain Therapy and Hypnotherapy. Hypnotic approaches are mainly oriented toward treatment of acute and chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), psychosomatic disorders, anxiety disorders, conversion disorders, neurological disorders, depressive disorders. In addition to ericksonian techniques, hypnoanalysis in selected case can be an effective and creative technique that allows unveiling and working-through of unconscious conflicts and traumatic memories, that can lead to complete and permanent healing of the underlying symptoms. Some other innovative hypnotherapeutic techniques (e.g., hypnotic dreams, synaesthetic approaches, quantum cognition methods, hypno-thermobiofeedback ) are currently used for discrete syndromes.
Training/EducationHe is actively involved in training and supervision in hypnosis – basic/advanced training, master in Hypnosis for Pain Control , basic / specialized /advanced workshops in Hypnosis.

Lectures/Workshops
He has lectured and given workshops in many international hypnosis/pain congresses and was invited to give workshops and training in many hypnosis societies and psychotherapy societies, in Italy, in many European countries (i.e., France, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria), Turkey, Israel, Iran, Singapore, China, South Africa and USA.Website: www.giuseppedebenedittis.it
